How to use a dog enrichment plan
Enrichment gives dogs an appropriate outlet for behaviours such as sniffing, searching, chewing and problem-solving. A useful routine is varied, achievable and matched to the individual dog.
Start easier than you think
The first activity should be simple enough to solve. Once your dog understands the game, increase difficulty gradually instead of hiding every reward as deeply as possible.
Rotate activities
Keep a few activities out of sight and rotate them through the week. Familiar activities often become interesting again after a short break.
Supervise and adjust
Inspect toys before use, supervise new activities and remove damaged items. Reduce intensity for puppies, senior dogs or dogs recovering from illness, and ask a veterinary professional when health affects suitable exercise.
